Kalahari Kaleidoscope (2023), a suite for cello and piano (vocals in two pieces) composed in South Africa’s Kalahari Desert, focuses on the landscape and its animals small and large – cheetah, African wild cat, brown hyena, meerkat, drongo (bird), lioness, springbok and steenbok – representing both the agony and the stark beauty of this vast, arid land.
For All Who Have Gone (2020) for cello and piano, was originally composed as part of Poland Parables, regarding Eastern European trauma during World War II. Today, it is dedicated to all who have gone during the current war in Ukraine.
The Blessing (2012) for cello and piano, was originally composed for a local girl who suffers disabilities due to a tragic accident. Today it serves as a ‘blessing’ for all who suffer from and are affected by the war in Ukraine and other current, tragic situations.
Sounds for Ukraine (2025) for solo piano, commissioned by Austrian/Canadian pianist and musical documentist, Judith Valerie Engel, is a short suite of courage for Ukraine, inspired by Ukrainians’ spirit and the colours of their flag. Holding speaks for Ukraine’s determination, while Blue Skies Forever reveals changing skyscapes, and Forever Golden Fields begins with the slow-then-sudden appearing of tiny plants which grow into the grandeur of golden fields.
Listen to the Silence (2000) for soprano and piano “was composed on my first of many visits to the Kalahari Desert, where silence and listening to voices within the silence became and remains a magical journey, and possibly a source for healing.”
