The Great Debate 2024
Topic: Community Engagement, whose role is it anyway? The Great Debate
Community engagement plays a fundamental role in the development assessment process, providing the community with an opportunity to have their say in shaping their communities. The planning industry continues to evolve in this space, appreciating the need for meaningful engagement with the communities we plan for. In the development assessment process, community engagement is an expectation of the private sector. However, more broadly the public sector strongly engages with communities across the strategic planning sphere.
Hence, this year we have decided to debate on the responsibility of meaningful community engagement.
Be a part of the discourse between teams of young and experienced planners as they debate whether it is the public or private sector that should champion community engagement in development assessment. The debate will comprise two teams of three, bringing their diverse planning and development backgrounds, to a head, with a dose of humour and healthy competition.
Presenters
There will be a wide range of speakers, from academic researchers to industry professionals. The genre will also see emerging planners with 3-5 years of post-graduate experience to industry leaders with more than 15 years of experience. Each speaker will present for 5 to 10 minutes to prove their point.
